Another tell tale sign of low coolant or a stuck air bubble is a non functioning heater. Check your heat, keep an eye on the oil, watch your temp gauge.

yeah that makes more sense then another leak especially if the oil is clean. I’ll put some miles on it this week and report back. Will the air eventually make its way out of the system or is cap off on a hill the only way to clear it all out?

The air would eventually work itself out with normal driving, but its best to get as much as you can out before driving. There might be other methods of bleeding the system, but usually the nose up method works fine for me.

What I've done every time is just get a funnel that fights pretty tight in the radiator fill neck and wrap it with electrical tape or something to make it seal well, then I fill the radiator completely full with the engine running and keep adding to keep the funnel full of coolant too. It should "burp" all of the air out if you do this.

would it do smoke/steam on startup, shortly after, once it reaches normal operating temp, or on shut off?

I see the hose in front of the radiator top tank, but where does in connect to the radiator? All I've seen connected at the filler neck. Also, to fill the heater core, you'll need to open that heater valve in the heater hose, by turning on the heater warm.
