Anyone have info on Remote Starters :
ie: What brand/type to get ?
Where to buy (on the net?)
How to install?
How hard to install?
Any problems you have had with the starter
I agree with Yoson. Let someone else install it. I have the Viper 160ESP.
I have seen remote start systems at Best Buy, Circuit City, Car Stereo Shops. You can get them almost anywhere.
There are hundreds of them on E-Bay. I tried to buy one there but the seller never responded to my request for an address to send payment. In hind sight I am glad because it is not a DIY project.
How do these remote starters determine when to crank the engine if you have to wait for the glow plug light to go out?
I would think it would be a lot different then if you were to get a remote start for a diesel with glow plugs as opposed to a gasoline engine.. Especially in the winter when it takes longer to start and the need for a remote starter is greater.
It has a signal that reads the wait to start light then there is a timer that has to expire prior to starting the truck, I have mine set at 5 sec after the WTS light goes out it will crank the eng for a few seconds (adjustable) and if it does not start then it will wait a few seconds (about 5) then try again, it will do this 3 times if the eng does not start it will disable itself. There is also a anti grind feature that will not allow you to grind the starter when you put the key in to operate the truck.
Had the truck at ford for sevice, asked about A ford remote starter system. I was told ford dosn't have one for the 6.0 . Any one have A factory remote starter?
I had Tweeter stereo install one 2 years ago when I bought a 2001 7.3 Well let me tell you if its not put in right you are screwed.
The second day after it was put in I went to work and BANGO.. DEAD BATTERYS.. yes both of them.
Not knowing what it was I called roadside service and it was taken back to Ford. It was the starter improperly installed as it drained the batteries.
Now furious I go back to tweeter and they tell me the brain on the starter was bad and they put a new one in.
THE NEXT NIGHT.. I get out of work and BANGO..DEAD BATTERYS
this time they were cooked. I had to buy 2 batterys and submit the bill to those clowns.
Drove the truck right in the shop and made them take it out right then and there. Refunded all my money too
Luckily they didn't fry the brain of the truck
BE CAREFUL WHO YOU CHOOSE. don't end up like me and let the pro's put it in
Good luck

I've heard some good things about the Ford Gold remote but I opted for an AutoPage RS-850 LCD due to all of the functions.
I purchased an XLT with no alarm and the AutoPage took care of the remote entry, remote start and alarm addition plus a lot more for $649 installed. I’ve seen the system itself for $235 minus installation.
This system has all the bells and whistles - great for those who don't have the factory alarm or want a better anti-theft system.
