How does the remote starter warm the glow plugs before cranking, does it have some type of delay? Also which remote starter do you guy recommend? Thanks
I have a bulldog and I like it alot. It has a sensor that connects to the glowplug wait to start light. When the light goes out it sends a signal to the remote starter. The whole system was pretty easy to install. The hardest part was finding the wires you need to find.
The remote start systems sold here are all the same except for the " features " they provide, such as remote window opening , door lock opening etc, If you want a minimum of crap that you dont need, and your vehicle dosnt have a factory installed , sofisicated alarm system . Then you or a bud you know that has ( reasonable electrical skills ) can do it for you.LoL
I have a 2000 PSD. My alarm system with remote start is a "Compustar". The alarm system has a paging feature also. If the alarm goes off, and I am within a mile of the truck, it will page me to let me know. Not sure if it will really go out to a mile, that is what the book says. The remote start is also supposed to work out to a mile (not sure why you would want to start the truck from a mile away anyway). I have sat in the truck and watched it warm the glow plugs before it starts. It works off the wait to start light. Starts first time everytime and is great on the chilly mornings. It also tells me remotely when the truck is running. It beeps and has a little picture on the remote (only the size of a normal pager) that shows exhaust coming out of the tailpipe. The hardest thing I have to do is remember to turn on the heater/defroster when I get out of the truck in the evening. I start it while I am drinking my coffee from the kitchen about 10 minutes before I leave for work. Hope this helps and good luck!
I got a UltraStart from mypushcart on ebay for about $60. They have them for auto and manual transmissions. They also have the glow plug detection system built right in. Do a search on ebaymotors for the seller "mypushcart" or for "remote start" and you will find them.
I just installed a Viper alarm/remote start in my truck last weekend. Love it! It has a turbo timer built in also. Almost the best thing I bought for the truck (Predator the best so far).
the remote starter that i have is on a 30 second delay, to allow the plugs to warm up, havent had a problem yet, but i think i might get it changed so the starter will start immediatley after the glow plug light goes off, not sure yet but the starter is called Command Start.
Help!!! Have a 2003 F250 Superduty and am installing a BullDog remote start. Does anyone know which wire is for the glow plugs, where it is and if it is positive or negative? THanks in advance everyone
These trucks use a databus, so there is no direct wire to tap into for the glow plug... Some say that the grn/wht under the air box is the one to tap into but still end up installing the pulse timer relay. So, most guys install a pulse timer relay... which just makes up for an alarm not having the delay feature. I have a CrimeStopper 2016FM that I installed 2 weekends ago and it has the delay feature, so I just set mine to 20 seconds, that seems to be working just fine. the only problem I have on my install is the unlock is really sleepy... I was lazy because the wire cluster for the door exists behind the park-brake assembly and I couldnt get to the wires, so I took the blk/blu at the doorwell instead... I think this next weekend, I will go into the grommet on the door and patch it there to see if it solves the sleepy lock problem. I love the remote start so far!
Awesome resource for info:
Check out the12volt com forums and search on the f250 or f350 and you will find everything you need to know on your install in these trucks!
