I just had my truck to an exhaust shop to look at and exhaust leak I’m having on my 2017 F150 with the 2.7. They told me the flange is missing off the turbo and this requires a whole new turbo. I’m unfamiliar with the turbo and I’m just trying to figure out if this flange is something that can be replaced without the whole turbo. I’m getting kind of discouraged with this truck now. Only 6 years old and 122.000 km and in the last year it’s cost me almost $10,000 in repairs. It’s getting close to going to the scrap yard!
Actually I’m not a professional mechanic by any means. I just had a look from the top down to the turbo. I was told the flange is missing. I took a picture of it. The flange looks like it’s there
to me. I’m going to add a picture. Let me know if a more experienced person can tell me if I’m right. Thanks.
Sounds like they are playing on turbo fear and misinformation to milk you for more money. Go to a highly rated, reputable independent shop with high ratings. The turbos on a 2.7 are fairly straight forward.
Go to this web site to survey what quality mechanics/shops are in your area. I got tired of getting up-sells from the Ford dealers around where I live, and located a quality shop to do what I needed for our 2015. They have been great to me for the last couple of years.
