337 Lincoln Flathead into a '36 1.5 Ton ?

OK all you experts out there, I'm needing to know if '49-'51 337cid Lincoln flathead will fit right into a 1936 1.5 ton Ford truck ? I'm hoping it will drop right on to the current motor mounts and bolt right up to the stock transmission. I realize this motor has some differences but it seems like it might work. Thoughts ? Thanks in advance.

It's unlikely it will drop right in, and for sure won't use the same mounts. You may not be able to put the hood sides on, either. You'll have to do some measuring and planning to see how feasibly doable it really is. The size difference is striking. Think big block flathead, much like the difference between a 302 and a 460. You'll need a different transmission/bellhousing, and about 6 inches more forward clearance. That's how much the core support was moved forward on the F8 trucks equipped with the big engine vs a V8 pickup. Mounts will be totally different. Ford made some rather small engine compartments in the 30's, and I don't recall right off how much side clearance there is between the engine and hood sides stock. The 337 is about 28" wide, 35" long, and weighs near 1000 pounds. Hope this helps.

Thanks Wayne. I kind of wondered. I know those motors are big and weigh 850 pounds but didn't really realize how different they were even though they were all flatheads. And I get the comparison with a big block Ford v. small block i.e. Mustang motors from the late 60's. Disappointing but that's the way it goes. I had a line on a good-running Lincoln 337 and was hoping it would work. If you know anyone who would be interested in this motor, let me know and I will pass around some contact information. Thanks again.

Just to clarify, you understood that this is a One-and-Half-Ton 1936 Ford, correct ? It's a big dog, I think 153

Here is are pics of 1) the 337 motor mount, still in a car about 8 hours away from me; 2) motor mount of the current '36 flathead in the 1.5 Ton; and 3) the Big Dog itself.

Sure, but the cab, hood and radiator grille are all the same. Only the fenders are bigger to fit around the larger wheels and tires.

I parted out an F8 with the 337 and still have the parts laying around. I'll try to share some pics. It would be cool to shoehorn that big motor in there, for sure, but it definitely wouldn't be plug and play.

Here's a couple engine pics I grabbed when I was parting out the F8. I don't know if these will help at all, but here they are. The engine is sitting on a roller cart now. If you'd like more pics or measurements or anything, just let me know. I'll do what I can.

Hey thanks Wayne. I'm going to pass on that motor as it's turning out to be much more of a project than I have the time or energy for. As far as I know, that big 337 Lincoln motor is still available, and I am going to list the '36 one-and-a-half ton I have with new tires and wheels. If anyone wants the gentlemen's contact info or is interested in the big '36 I have, feel free to let me know. Thanks for the pics.
