Update: a good one!

Thank you all for all your help. Truck is good to go. I’m a little embarrassed to say…….. I had an air pocket in there somewhere that was being stubborn. But it’s out now.

I let the truck sit damn near ALL DAY today. Drinking beer and keeping the brake master cylinder fluid topped off while watching Nascar in the shop…. Just let the thing gravity bleed for about 8 hours. Maybe 9.
Brakes are perfect and better than ever. Little embarrassing but hey, I bled and bled and bled before too. Just had a stubborn air pocket somewhere. Wild, but problem solved.

Heres a wise nugget of info from 1989 Ford shop manual

Hate to be the negative Nancy here, but something tells me the problem is not fixed. Opening up the bleeders releases all pressure in the system, and your brakes were still dragging. Also, air doesn't cause the brakes to drag, it causes a squishy pedal. The that air bubble did get hot and expand, the wouldn't be any pressure increase because the air would push brake fluid back into the reservoir.

good postulation.. i concur. the system should be rechecked for function and behavior and jacking up while the truck is cold and giving wheels a spin and maybe again after warmed up and do the same would give a good sense for what is happening yet

Well I’ve got over 100 miles on the truck since, and still no issues. I did forget to mention that I threw a new brake light switch on the truck also. I still get my rear antilock light coming on and still gives me code 11 so I don’t think that was related to the fix… all I know is I gravity bled for 8 hours and now the brakes are good as new. Haven’t even tried dragging once since. Hope I don’t jinx myself now.
