Spent some time today trying to get a tailgate seal kit (Extruded Solutions) to work on my '24 Platinum with the power tailgate. No matter how I positioned the rubber strips the tailgate would not function properly. It seems to be very sensitive to any pressure changes. Any ideas? Can the tailgate be adjusted to squeeze shut against the increased pressure the seal causes?
I have yet to own a truck with a power closing tailgate, but I have a 24 Platinum on order. I imagine it would have a safety mechanism to prevent applying a crushing force to an errant body part caught in the way similar to the sliding doors on a minivan, or a tailgate on a minivan or SUV. I know on my Chrysler Pacifica the safety threshold is pretty low to save kids fingers.
What problem are you trying to solve with using a seal kit? I have owned plenty of trucks over the years from the "big 3" and never felt that anything was getting in to the bed via the tailgate - even when going through high pressure touchless carwashes.
I closed mine manually and waited a couple days as the seal relaxed, been fine ever since. I only didi the top edge though with the thinner pieces out of the long roll, never used the short pieces too thick. If you stop the water coming off the cover at the top no need for the rest.
Excuse the bird dropping.
I put SnugTop camper shells on my trucks and always used a tailgate seal kit in the past. They really help limit dust intrusion. Without the seal the amount of dust being sucked in is impressive. I spend a lot of time off road in extremely dry areas with stuff in the back which I'd rather protect if possible. Camera gear, hunting or fishing gear, clothing etc. Not trying for a watertight seal just limiting the dust which a tailgate seal usually accomplishes easily and cheaply.
