Single dose sized fuel additive

Lets face it. Diesel fuel additives are sticky and kinda funky smelling. Although my experience is largely with Diesel Kleen and Hot Shots ETD, I assume that the lubricity additives are what makes the stuff sticky, yet also why our CP4 needs these products. I have a 28 gal tank, and typically buy fuel the instant my tank hits 1/4 tank or so. Then I run home and pour 4oz of Hot Shot squeeze bottle into the dedicated funnel in my garage. I keep the funnel upside down because I know the sticky residue will certainly attract and hold dirt.
I'd really like to find a product in a small single use size that I can just dump in when I'm refueling at the station, yet the smallest size I've seen for most products is a 40 gallon treatment size, which means I'd use 1/2 of the bottle when filling up and have the remaining half bottle getting goey in my cab. I love the squeeze dosing of the Hot Shot Secret, but I know that if left in my truck it would stink the cab up in no time. Have any of you found a product that comes on a 15-20 gallon treatment size? I typically don't mind my current system but if I can find a dump and go size bottle I'd prefer it over using a sticky funnel that will eventually accumulate dirt.

Edit: After posting this, I see Stanadyne makes a "Performance Formula One" is a 8oz/30 gallon size. I'm unfamiliar with the product and still would like to find a 20 gallon single use size.

I use K100D which while providing lubricity as well as other things, is not sticky or really smelly. I keep it in an open ziplock bag in a 32 oz Stabil bottle (1 oz dosing compartment) in the driver's seat rear pocket for proper dosing. Now the Max Mileage fuel borne catalyst (from Pittsburgh Power) stinks to the high heavens so it's keep in a ammo can with a rubber seal lined with plastic bags in case, because the smell is so strong.

Anyways, Pittsburgh Power sells a 16 oz bottle, just the bottle which would provide you a way of dosing plus if you bought an ammo can like me, you could keep it in the truck like I do. The bottle has a 1 oz dosing compartment also... just food for thought because I don't think you'll find what you're looking for. Hopefully this helps...

I was going to say Stanadyne. I've been using their lubricity formula which I don't find to be sticky or strong smelling. Prior to that I used Diesel Kleen, that stuff has an extremely strong odor.
The lubricity formula comes in an 8oz size that treats 15 gallons, kinda strange considering the 16oz size treats up to 125 gallon. Their performance formula I have only used once, it's too pricey for me. That's the other down side to buying the small bottles, it costs quite a bit more per gallon treated.

I bought a 20-unit case of 5-oz glass hot sauce bottles. I use a turkey baster to transfer the liquid to a graduated cylinder for measuring, then pour into the bottles. Since they're glass they'll not degrade and leak, like some plastics. The caps seem to be working well so far, and the box with which they were delivered is compartmentalized per bottle for shipment, and prevent them from rattling against each other (and breaking). They're perfect for holding 4 ounces, and for storing the bottles in the box inside the truck. I've yet to notice any odors over the weeks they reside in the passenger compartment.

Over time I switched additives, and now have a similar case of 3-oz bottles, where I keep 1-1/2 ounces per bottle (one per 1/2 a tank; 15 gallons). And, since I usually fill up when I get to a half tank, I just dump one bottle when filling up. If I extend to 1/4 tank or less, I just use two bottles.

When I switch back to an additive that requires four ounces, I'll re-employ the 5-oz bottles.

After making this thread, I found this show up on Amazon. The Opti-Lube XPD in 4oz bottles (treats 16 gallon.) That would allow me to keep a few 4oz unopened bottles under the seat for fueling on the go and seem to be about the right size for my fillup frequency. Reviews seem positive...anyone familiar with the XPD? Pros/Cons?

XPD is a popular choice. The only con that I know of is price. That doesn't seem to be a factor in the decision though. Opti-Lube makes all of their additives available in packs of 4oz bottles but the XPD is the only one that fits the treat rate you are looking for. The others (Summer+ or XL)would leave you with partial bottles.

Thanks! I ordered a 12 pack to try via Amazon ($54) I was originally going to order directly from Opti-Lube but their $13 shipping yielded no price savings.

Hot Shots makes a 16 oz bottle with the metering cup at the top. I just keep it in the truck's map pocket in the door, not smells, no sticky stuff. To me, you're more apt to get it on your fingers by having to peel off the foam seal than anything (I know you can just poke a hole in it, but I don't risk that ever coming lose and going into the tank).

As Pugga mentioned it works very well. Squeeze what you want into top portion, pour and done. No mess at at.

Looks like they sell their own carry case for their little 6 packs and 8 packs with an o-ring seal like my ammo case but I still think my case is cooler...

From: So Cal...for now
I bought a Opti-Lube Summer+ gallon kit with the pump and two bottles on Amazon yesterday. For my dosing requirement, the 4 oz bottle will work though I would prefer 5 oz per treatment.

Cali has good diesel, and most places have a high bio-blend (5%) so I need less added lubricity. II got this for places outside of Cali like when I go on a trip next month into Arizona. I might supplement with Opti-Lube XL once I move to NC later this year.

You might want to stick with the Summer+ when you move to NC because of the cetane improver in it. Here in Cali cetane rating is in the 50's, NC could be as low as 40. As far as I know, most diesel across the country has up to 5% bio in it, not just Cali.

I use Optilube XL and one 4oz bottle treats a tank. I keep the bottles in an ammo can under the back seat. I buy 1 gallon jugs of XL to refill the small 4oz bottles with.

I purchased the Opti-Lube Summer+ kit a while back and use the included bottles for long road trips. When at home I just pump a single tank dose into a used, completely dried out 16 oz plastic water bottle and then head to the fuel station. Add the additive, toss the bottle and fuel up. That is the least messy method I've found.
