Yes, that method is for radical cams but works for them all
There are a few ways to do it and they are all correct
The problem with big cams is the clearance ramps

Yes, but as another guy pointed out to me after I pinned my hopes on a valve adjustment, almost all 302s have pedestal mount rockers and are not adjustable, everything is pointing to an internal vacuum leak. I have a Cometic High Temperature Steel (HTS) Intake Manifold Gasket coming, if it ever gets here USPS is doing what USPS does, and we will try that. That valve adjustment technique is good to know though, it helps you understand how a valve train works, especially with a cam. It was helpful.
