Oil level reading

I have a 2013 F-150 5.0 and I've always had trouble reading the oil level on the dip stick. I just added about a quart and I it doesn't seem like it even came up on the dip stick. What's up with that?

I find it easier to tell dip stick level, after the engine has been off awhile. The oil has settled and cooled a bit, less runny. Especially after you've just added oil, start engine, then shut down and let it settle.

One thing that can help. Pull dipstick, wipe off oil. Insert dipstick. pull dipstick and lay the tip where the oil is flat on a white paper towel. The wet on the towel will show where the level is.
