Oil level?

I changed my oil last week. I put 7 quarts of oil and a new filter on. When I checked my level today it seems high. The ground seems pretty level (im at work where I normally check it). It is reading about a quater inch above the checkering. I only have 10k miles so that could be normal Im just not sure.

Mine is the same way. After adding the recommended 7 quarts, the level is above the checkered region but below the upper hole in the dipstick.

How about the length of the dipstick? It's the longest one I've ever had on a gas engine.

If its between the two holes I'd say your good to go.

For a fairly quick reference you can mark the dipstick. Change the oil/filter, add the recommended amount of oil, run the motor for a short period to circulate oil, park on a level surface, wait several hours for the oil to settle and scribe a mark on the dipstick with a scriber or a file to mark the oil level.

The whole system hold 7 quarts. engine, filter, cooler and lines. The odds of it all draining during an oil change are close to nill.
Prefill the new filter with oil before you spin it on. Then add oil rechecking as you go to reach the correct level.
