questions for the Heli coil experts and/or experienced Heli coil installers.
1st attempt at installing helicoil inserts into a practice stripped hole...the threading tool snapped and broke in two. it was getting super tight..and the genius that I am...I put a small diameter pipe on the tool to overcome the resistance...bang...tool broke.
so...my next attemp...plan on going down the normal path...but..if the tool gets too tight by hand...plan to [pull out and upgrade to the next size hole. for example...if the heli coil requires 25/64 and it starts to bind while threading..will pull out and go to a 26/64 hole...
Im doing a few practice runs before I attempt the actual repair on my front gearbox cover bolt holes...cant afford to have the tool snap off and become logded inside the hole. two bolt holes stripped over time as part of the dual steering stabilizer bracket.
also, I am considering to go up to a larger bolt for more strenth. instead of a 3/8-16 socket cap, thinking about using 7/16-20 socket cap bolt.
Did you back off the tap to allow the chips to clear, especially blind holes you may have to remover the tap several times and blow the chips out so the tap doesn’t have to try and recut chips as your cutting. Are you using any oil while you cut?
