Heli-coils

Do I really need the heli-coil installation tool? Can't I just use appropriate size bolt with a jam nut to install the insert? Thanks, Dave

I like to use the tool and it also will break off the tang when you get it inserted.

The tool allows the insert to shrink to fit in.

If you use the bolt as the install tool the coil may only go in a couple of turns then the tang breaks off and your screwed. The install tool is smaller than a bolt and allows the coil to tighten up around it and shrink the OD as it goes in.
