Hopefully we get some good rain out of today's storm.
Thanks for the January thread.
We barely got wet windshields. Not enough rain to even turn the wipers on. I just drove, and the water beaded off. The law now is to have the headlights on when the wipers are on. I don't like most laws. We have too many laws which simply erode our civil liberties. Each and every one of us should be able to decide for ourselves if we want to turn our lights on during the rain. A law like this is simple government tyranny and oppression. Not saying that we need to rise, bear arms, and storm The Capitol. Since it's a state law, I doubt if storming Sacramento would do any good. But if anyone does take off their shirt, bare their arms, and march up to The Governor's Mansion; see if you can convince The Gavinator to expedite my 49ers license plate.
In Japan, steak fried rice has become a very popular dish. Without dispute, everyone accepts that it was "invented" by a couple of college students, and first gained popularity with the local student population. The same way that San Francisco Mission Burritos and pho bowls became popular. Hearty, filling, and large portions. Exactly what college kids want. So popular, that a lot of Japanese restaurants are now offering it as an off menu or secret menu item. Even here in The USA, people are asking for it in restaurants. In all honesty, it's the simplest dish, that is probably more American than Japanese. The most basic egg fried rice. Just eggs and rice. Stir fried. Topped with steak.
I had steak fried rice tonight. With a salad of tomato, avocado, persimmon, and carrots. Not sure whether we were commemorating the January Sixth event, mourning the loss of my truck battery, or celebrating the return of Draymond Green to The NBA.
Wow. I can't believe I forgot to make a January thread.
The Gavinator has a nasty habit of making laws that **** people off. Another law that took effect this month is the one banning CCW permit holders from carrying anywhere in California. What an ***. It is being appealed of course, and a federal judge put a stay on it in light of the appeal, but a panel of three judges overturned that ban. However, the Fresno Sheriff's office issued a statement that they will not enforce it. The say they do not have the manpower to check every single CCW holder to see if they are carrying. The also said they know CCW permit holders are law abiding citizens and they will continue to pursue actual criminals who have guns illegally. They did say that there are other law enforcement agencies who may enforce the law. I have not heard from the Fresno PD, of CHP what their plans are.
In the yard, there's this weird plant. Seems to grow wild, as I don't take care of it. It's pretty good fruit. I chopped it up and topped a salad with it.
I found out some disturbing news yesterday. The USA is the number one consumer of human trafficking, and California is the number one consumer of the USA. And the central hub of human trafficking is Fresno. That is not an area I want to be number one in.
Stopped by the repair shop yesterday and was told the truck should be ready by this weekend. I have been told this before, so I will believe it when it actually happens. On a different note, my apartment heater/AC unit had started sounding very loud whenever it cycled on. The maintenance guy came out, and ended up having to order a whole new unit as this one was built in 2006 and on its last legs. So now my heater is so quiet I don't have to turn up the volume on the TV whenever it cycles on.
It sprinkled off and on until it was time to come home. I did not get wet too much. About an hour after I got home it started raining pretty good, but by that time I was snug as a bug in a rug in my recliner watching YouTube videos. I agree, I will probably need a set of wipers when I get the truck back.
Stopped by the repair shop on the way back from Bible study today and got a chance to look at the engine. It is about 80% back together and the tech said the timing chains were still good, but that the tensioners were bad. And little bits of tensioner were found in the oil pan. The oil pump has been replaced already and it is almost ready to go back into the truck. It is supposed to rain Saturday so I don't know if they will get it in before then or not.
