With any luck my oil will be changed at the shop. Since they had to drain it to install the new pump. LOL. I plan on going there today to pick up my truck. After all, they did say it would be ready by last weekend. So, I figure it will be ready today. I will not hold my breath though as I have lost count of how many times, they have given me a certain day it will be ready.
The rain just started on my block. Coming down nicely. I'm hoping for some fig cuttings to take root. Last year, only 1 worked. There was a warm period where they started leafing, before good roots developed. Then a late chill killed them off. The peaches were also destroyed. I got a whopping total of 3 apricots. I'm hoping that this year, it will be different. The loquat tree is in full bloom. The lime is looking okay. Some of the lime crop have been on the tree so long that they are turning yellow.
I would love to have a peach tree in my yard. as well as an avocado tree. Of course, it would help if I was in a house and not an apartment.
Stopped by the repair shop yesterday and they were actually putting the engine in the truck. I was shocked. Shouldn't be long now.
Not saying that your shop is shady. But I have seen really bad work. Always done on purpose. I guess that's what happens when you spend a half a lifetime observing the worst of the human condition. I am suspicious of everyone and everything. Or as Dad would say, "you gotta watch 'em".
Everyone deserves a second chance. However, I know what you mean. This shop does not have a very good track record with me so far, and considering how long it has taken them to do the work on the truck, I doubt I will use them again. It took them a month to finally remove the engine and tell me it was the wrong one. Really? They kept putting other customer's cars in front of mine even though I had already paid them up front for the work. I have never paid upfront at any repair shop I have gone to before. My favorite mechanic is working solo since his mechanic quit, so now he has a 2-3 month backlog. I think the only reason I went with this shop was that they had that SNAP finance option. And of course, they are less than a block away from me. If they indeed do good work and the truck runs fine afterwards, I will use them again in the future. However, with all the money I have spent on this truck I pray that will be a far distant future as I need to pay down all these credit cards.
Howdy guys, I just found my way to the January thread.
Jim, looking forward to hearing how the truck works out for you. So, the donor truck had the wrong engine. I can't remember what you ended up doing for an engine. It sounds like it close to being done. I read where they found pieces of the tensioners in the pan, but I guess I must have missed it if you told us but did they install new cam chain tensioners?
I sold the donor to Pick N Pull for $328. A far cry from the 680 I paid for it and the $375 it cost me to have it towed down here. It was missing the cat, and trans, which is why I got so little for it. Since the engine was a 2v instead of 3v and it looked worse than mine I had the shop get rid of it. I bought a high volume Mellings oil pump from Rockauto.com, and a timing chain set from Amazon.com. The set came with new tensioners, chains, sprockets, cam phasers, and gaskets, oh and a water pump. So, the engine should be good for another 100k. It ran fine prior to the repair work except for the random moments of running like it slipped a tooth. No blue or black smoke, so I am praying the internals are good. I will let you know how it runs when I get it back, which I am hoping will be sometime this week.
