Hello,
I just have a simple question about the starter. Today the top half of my starter (the part the battery cables connect to) lost the bolts holding it to the rest of the starter. Was able to get the truck started with a second set of hands holding it in place for a second, but I don’t always have that. So I need to know what size those bolts are if anybody knows. Will be diving into my collection of miscellaneous bolts to see if I have some that’ll fit but getting exact fit brand new would be best.
thanks
If your starter fell apart you should probably replace it. You can get a replacement at the local auto parts store.
Also, you can replace the top bolt with one that is 6 or 8 inches long. Run a nylon lock nut down it so it keeps your starter tight. The top bolt is a PITA to get to otherwise.
Trying to visulize this, sounds like the Starter solenoid came loose?
First I heard that happening. No idea on size of bolts.
best to remove the Starter probably, and clean it up to see what ya got.
With winter on us, you need a dependable Starter.
If you need to replace the Starter, go with the Power Master 9050.
I cut the head off of a stainless bolt, buttered it up with JB Weld (after properly cleaning hole), used 2 locknuts to put it in nice and tight.
Now it's easy to hang starter up there when installing. I used stainless so there is no way nuts will get rusted on and break the JB Weld.
Thanks for the input and sorry for the late reply. After sitting in the lot for 20 minutes I found a thick super heavy duty ziptie in my toolbox. I just wrapped that around the solenoid intending for it to be a temporary fix, but it still hasn't gone bad
Yeah at least the starter is working. I haven’t been driving it too much, I was working on getting my bike running so that I can truly put the truck under for a while. It absolutely needs a whole new front end as far as steering/suspension goes along with a very fast power drain
