Reverse Light sensor
I have a 86 F250 with a T18 trans and a 460 engine. I'm having issues with the reverse light sensor on the trans coming unplugged. As well as having a hard time getting a wrench on it to remove it to check the plastic tabs on it. Does anyone have any advice on how to access it?
Side note: the lights do work, it just comes unplugged after a few miles.
Can you see the tabs on the switch if you got up there with a mirror? No point in removing the switch if you can verify the tabs are good.
I replaced the reverse light switch on my T18 several years ago. Memory is fuzzy on the details, but I think I used a deepwell socket and extension. I don't remember access being too bad from underneath.
If the connector is the problem, not the switch, RockAuto and other vendors have them. If possible, swap the existing contacts to the new connector shell. That way you don't have to splice any wires, for improved reliability. Most connectors can be easily disassembled by using a small screwdriver to release the little tabs holding the contacts.

I think Karl spelled it out the best on how to get to the switch to replace it as I dont think you can get a socket on it from below as the tower is up into the hump but maybe?
My truck came with the T18 and the plug on the wire was bad, did not make connection inside the rubber but after the plug was good.
I have A weather master electrical kit like GM plugs use. I cut the plug off and I put a 2 pin weather plug on the wire and pushed it into the switch.
It worked with the T18 and then the NP435 in the truck now and it has been over 4 years on the road now.
It dose not use the part of the switch to hold the plug in. I think the rubber seals is what holds it in.
