Merry Christmas and Best of the Holidays to all fellow enthusiasts.
I am awaiting the return of my fuel pump from Cowboy John. A review of the shop manual informs as to installation: " Make sure the rocker arm is against the eccentric on the camshaft."
Is there a 'trick' to insuring the arm touches the cam? I would think the pump would only install if the arm touched the camshaft? Is it possible to do otherwise? Is it possible to install the pump with the arm under the camshaft or somehow missing it entirely?
I initially installed the pump and turned the motor over the fuel bowl barely filled. I did install a Napa fuel filter in the line before the pump. The filter filled with fuel but the fuel bowl did not. I initially thought the filter was too much resistance but I thought the best insurance was to have the pump rebuilt by Cowboy John and start fresh.
Thanks for your experience. Eager to get my motor fired up.
Some say a filter should be before the pump. Some say the filter should be between the pump and carb. I have one between pump and carb. Others will chime in. Then you can decide.
I just read this in the Jan/Feb issue of Vintage Truck. He says a fuel filter should be between the tank and pump.
On some engines, if the pump arm is against the eccentric, the spring in the pump makes it hard to get the bolts started, gramps always turned the engine so the arm was on the back side of the eccentric.
