No Fuel in the Fuel Filter...

I just put in a rebuilt 351W on my 83 Bronco and I am sure I have spark but I don't see any fuel in my clear fuel filter. Is this a vaccum problem or do I need to prime the manual fule pump or something? Should I go ahead and install an electornic fuel pump (about $35)? Thanks!

No Fuel in the Fuel Filter...

$35 for an electric fuel pump? Go for it, buddy, that's a great deal. You either have your existing pump plumbed in backwards, or the cam eccentric isn't hooked up right, or you may have a busted diaphragm in the pump. Wise choice using the clear view filter, but the glass type is a little risky, they have been known to explode. A better clear view is a NAPA P/N 3003 ($2.99 at NAPA-cheap insurance), it's made of plexiglass, so you can see through it without risking a disasterous explosion. I would also recommend using a regular steel bodied filter close to the gas tank, so you have ultimate fuel filtration. My carb actually runs better with both filters in place. Now, using an electric pump, I'd start out with a Deutsch P/N 745 immediately after the pump, and a normal prefilter, like the universal carb filter that you would have used coming off the sending unit. This way you'll never damage the electric pump with particles. Don't use the 745 with a manual pump, it will severly restrict flow if it only has a little manual pump sucking through it (been there, learned that).

No Fuel in the Fuel Filter...

I am almost sure it has something to do with the CAM eccentric...can someone elaborate on this for me a little? The manual explains it in short but does not go into great detail. Thanks for the input, I think I am going to go ahead and put a second fuel filter on by the tank anyway just to be sure. The electric pump is a Universal pump from Autozone btw.

Thanks again for the input.

I am having the same problem with my 302 that I just re-installed. No fuel in the filter. Let me know what you find out about the cam ecentric. I may be having the same problem.

Thanks,
Jeff
