I bought a nice 1991 F150 with 302 and AOD tranny.....Code on sticker on inside of cab reads "T" and selector reads P R N (D) D 1. The transmission was out when I bought it ... when I say out I mean torn apart and all of the parts in boxes. So looking for a used tranny and I find a 1991 "parts truck" with 302 engine partially disassembled so I assume tranny is probably ok. So can not read the sticker because it is painted over. The gear selector reads P R N D 2 1.... so I am thinking it is a C4 and not an AOD. And if it is a C4 are there any issues with swapping into my truck which has an AOD ? And also I need to be concerned about driveshaft length.... Did AOD and C4 use the same driveshaft ?

Reason: clarify
Find an AOD
They did not put a C4 in trucks so the one you are looking at must be a C6
I do not think a C4 torque converter will bolt to your existing flex plate
A C6 will however
Again, look for an AOD
OK then I might just go with the C6 because is more heavy duty than the AOD .... any issues with transmission linkages if doing this swap ? This parts truck has 25000 on the odometer and I believe has only rolled over once judging by wear on the interior and on the brake pedal. So for $150 I might go for it .... And I am planning to begin rebuilding Ford transmissions of this vintage (youtube transmission school) .... I have the mechanical abilities and am somewhat of a machinist... so going to swap for this tranny and the AOD will be my first rebuild attempt.... but really am most interested in E4OD rebuilding. Probably ought to get the drive shaft that goes with the C6. The parts truck is scheduled to be crushed later this week (the fate of many rusted up but not worn out trucks here in the western Pennsylvania rust belt ).....
