Putting a 1988 302 in my F68(F3) with matched AOD transmission. Want to rebuild the tranny from car to truck use. Advice on this choice, where to find a kit to do this and any other tips on AOD trannys would be appreciated.

There are a few upgrades for the AOD, input shaft, clutch packs, drum... All worthwhile doing. Are you using the original motor that came in front of that AOD? For truck use I'd think about a lower stall converter unless you plan on building the motor to rev high.
Thanks. Current plans for 302 engine is just a manifold and a good 4 barrel carb. Do you have a link to where I could find these upgrades or kits?

I put a 1988 AOD from a Crown Vic into my daughter's 66 Mustang behind a 5.0 HO out of a 91 Mustang. Pretty much stock engine with 4 barrel carb. and a carb'd distributor. All I did to the trans was an Art Carr kit and resealed it. Also a LOKAR TV cable to connect to the carb. That was at least 16 years ago. Still running and she drives it hard.
The kit had valve body mods, valves and typical separator plate mod. It was really easy to do. Sorry I cant give you the specific kit. I think he is no longer in business? I used the stock converter. I don't remember how many miles were on the trans when I got it.

good stuff here.
I have a pdf of TECH MODS from this link
I would attach it here, but not sure if allowed to.
I did all the tech mods shown.
I even talked with the owner of this business. He was very willing to help!
He is also a member here, but will have to refer back to my archives.

This is a forum that has great info and discussion on the AOD. He is on there most of the time. So if you have questions, you can get in touch with him there easier than here.
I am not a transmission guy, but if you study and read and get organized and clean, you can build it.
That being said....I haven't had my truck running yet to test my work...BOO on me....lol
If you have any questions for me, send me a PM. I can get you all my info. That pdf is on my laptop at home. PM your email address, I will do what I can to help out.
Yes the controller is one of the reasons I went aod to avoid the cost and keep my truck none computer . If I remember correctly some of the 4r70w and many aode parts can be put in the aod , but budget wise and running a mild 302 a freshened up aod should last a very long time .
I used Baumann Engineering for parts and information on my AODE. They have a lot of information on AOD, AODE, 4R70W.
I used their transmission controller (haven’t run it yet). You might want to pick up a cheap 4R70W core, for a lot of the upgrade parts in your AOD
You’ll learn a lot from their technical section. Here’s a link https://www.becontrols.com/techguide.shtml
it’s not difficult, rebuilding one of these, especially if you have the service manual. Baumann has those, as well.
Good luck!

I second that! I read and bought stuff from them too.
I rebuilt an AOD fall of 2018 and put it in my 1953 5.0 efi truck last month(all seems to work well so far). Let me give you 2 pieces of advice(from experience). My 3.25 rear end is too steep (using an AOD) for the fun I'm looking for and if you do this rebuild, you might as well buy the lip-seal install "tools" up-front instead of destroying several seals before buying the install "tools."
