While doing some maintenance I must’ve bumped my coil connector. One of the positive leads popped off. Seems like an easy enough fix but I cannot figure out how to remove the lead from the plastic connector/harness.
Anybody have any tips?
Trying to figure out how to get wire connector from the plastic connector harness
I’m not personally familiar with the hardware your setup is using, and the pics aren’t so great, but I would think that since it looks like those are just standard crimp terminals that you should be able to get a standard set of terminal pin removal tools and find the one you need. Remove the old terminal by pressing the tool into the small gap at the front of the connector, strip a bit of insulation off the wire, and then crimp another terminal on there. However, it might be cheaper in the end to just get a new part.
The horseshoe shaped coil connector is commonly referred to, oddly enough, as a “horseshoe connector“ for Ford coils.😁
They are available at most auto parts stores, or through the aftermarket with some wires already attached to new connectors.
They were well known for cracking under heat and old age. But if yours is still in good condition, they are actually one of the easier terminals to de-pin from the plastic protector.
A tiny screwdriver will work on these if I remember correctly. So you might not even need a special tool.
Although I’m a big fan of the multi pin tools myself.
Is the vehicle still running? I can’t really see where the wire goes that is broken, but it may very well be to the radio noise suppression capacitor. That is usually attached to the side of the coil bracket.
Basically looks like an ignition condenser and the original one had the matching color red with green wire on it. Aftermarket ones are generally black and don’t have the same Ford connector.
Is that the wire question?
Well, I pulled the old terminal open and crimped it up again as a temp fix. Probably needs a solder weld for the long term.
Speaking of which, I have an Accel superstock coil on the shelf. Never opened or installed because the terminals are different (screws vs studs). Does anyone have a picture of the upgraded wiring on a new coil? 90 degree boot, loop terminal? Just wondering what good looks like on a new coil wiring setup.
