Hello everyone. I'm having trouble figuring out what alternator this is and looking to upgrade since I'm on the subject. Engine is a 351C. System not charging but I believe the issue is from this old crappy beat up harness. Alternator tested good at the auto store. I'll be ordering a new harness but am debating on upgrading the alternator as well. Nothing on my electrical system that should demand a lot of power but I want the availability to do so if I decide on adding fans and other stuff in future. Not exactly sure what type this is. 1G 2g 3g idk the difference. Would like opinions on what I have and what ppl recommend.
IVe replaced the voltage regulator before bcz it burned out. Thinking the harness put stress on it and caused it to crap out.
I converted to a 3g internally regulated alt out of a 97 f250. Got the pigtails from rockauto and wired in. I did have to reclock the alternator for better wire location and change the pulley to the v belt one. This is really an easy conversion and is well worth it if you want/need higher amps.

Thank you bud, so I ripped out my old harness and noticed that a pig tail connection to Alt was ripped open. That explains my not charging issue.
As for the conversion Ive been doing research and will go that route. Not exactly sure what kit to choose from or to go looking for OEM from a junkyard. Gotta do research
Not really a kit per se as it is such an easy upgrade. Just have to get an alt with the amps you want from the part store. You could however get the factory pigtail for that alt at a junk yard, that would make it a little simpler. Then all you need to do is buzz off the pulley from the original and put it on the new one. It mounts exactly as the original did in the original brackets.
