I've been on this site for a couple of years now. And these newer Ford trucks have their problems here & there. But at least the top of the cabs are not splitting apart & cracking open that I have heard of. Just read where Government Motors are stopping sales of their Sierra & Silverado Trucks because the cabs are splitting apart along the trim. The fix? They take your new truck strip the top down find the crack or cracks drill holes to stop the cracks then weld the seams back up on your brand new Government motors truck. Unbelievable! The more that we move forward the more we move backwards it seems. Goes to show that it just isn't Ford that has truck problems. Myself I don't think that I would accept a welded up cab on a new truck. My truck has a welded Dana rear end that's bad enough. It just goes round & round. Charge more & deliver less.
One of my guys showed me an article on this, this morning. We dont have any current GM trucks under contract right now but who knows what brand my customers might find the better deal with tomorrow. Keeping this info in mind for down the road if needed.
This is likely another one of those very small % of trucks affected. I googled GM cab cracking and found nothing about the cab, but did find some dash cracking articles so it's not THAT widespread of an issue, although I didn't try real hard to find an article, but if its THAT big of a deal it would be the first result on google, or at least on the first page. Im sure you can go to a GM forum and there will be the same talk about how everything Ford does is crap and how bad the 7.3 and 6.7 is (we do that enough here ).
"Approximately 3,067 vehicles in the United States are potentially affected.", potentially is a keyword there, the number is probably a lot smaller than that. I wouldn't call that a widespread issue at all, I have no idea how many 2024 trucks will be produced but you're looking at 1-2% of trucks I'd assume and that's using 3k as the number, which we know the number is likely less than that. If you want to split hairs about 3k trucks of any certain brand we can talk about 100s of issues that affect that small number of units.
I think the Kentucky Truck Plant builds 1300 trucks per day IIRC. So if GM runs about the same that's about 2 1/2 days of trucks. And only on one side. Sounds to me like one of the robots got out of calibration there for a little bit. Ford had a similar issue with the robot that put the adhesive on the windshields.
If you wanted a light GM work truck I bet you could get a deal on one.
For all of the complaints today, and there are some and my heart goes out to them because I KNOW how poorly Ford responds, there is nothing in these forums that compare with the outrageous issues confronting so many owners in the 2008-2010 timeframe. Let’s hope that we do not return to those days.
