I'm confused, isn't 90 problems per 100 vehicles bad (almost one problem per new vehicle)? Or am I missing something blatantly obvious? Besides ford getting 5 of 19 categories.

If you bought a new vehicle and had a problem with the brakes, the transmission, the engine, the windshield leaking and an electrical problem then that would be 5 problems per 1 vehicle. So, if you looked at it that way then it would be 500 problems per 100 vehicles.
Or, if 50 vehicles had no problems and 25 had 3 problems and 25 had 5 problems then it would be 200 problems per 100 vehicles.
Just goes to show you that the percieved superior quality of the Japanese brands is a myth.
I think Ford and GM have a long, long way to go to disprove the idea - which is far from a myth. It's been a fact that Japanese cars outlast American cars for quite a few years now.
Initial quality is great - but what about quality at 200k miles? I can buy a new Camry or Accord today and with proper maintenance, I can rest pretty well assured that the car will make it to 200k, 300k, or beyond. I cannot say that about a Ford or GM car. Truck, yes. But car, no.
I have a buddy that is a mechanic at a local Nissan Dealership and he won't touch them with a 10 foot pole. They give him hell because he drives his F150 to work.
