my truck is in need of new shocks. 02 250 4 door SD 4X4. still has stock suspension. not looking to brake the bank. .
Not looking for Rancho or big brand names..
I see a set of 4 MOOG shocks with new stabilizers for $250
i see a set of 4 from Detroit axle with stabilizers for $114 with 690 buyers on EBay
thanks..
I've run either monroe or gabriel shocks that did really well.
I know you are looking for cheap and you will most likely get what you pay for. Ranch sucks IMO, but I like Bilstein, currently running fox which I know is out of your budget. just throwing that out there
I’ve never been a fan of Monroe. Not sure why exactly but just haven’t liked them on anything they have been installed (never used them on my truck). That’s what our local parts store carries.
Dad had put some Monroes (pretty sure that’s what they were) on his 2000 F350. Hated it. Took them off and installed Motorcraft which he had the local store order in for him.

I'd be curious who make the motorcraft, surely they do not make their own.
I also do not recall if the set i got was monroe or gabriel. i just remember years ago i put my truck back to stock and wanted something softer than bilstein 5100's iirc (definitely the aluminum bodied)....something like that. whatever i put on was good, maybe a little soft for some, but they did their job and had a decent ride for stock. they weren't the entry level shocks either. maybe they were gabriel as that's what i was running on my semi that did well.
I hate trying to remember things from the past, info tends to get mixed up in my memory
KYB makes a good shock for these rigs that's priced a bit better than rancho/bilstein. I ran a set on my 3/4 ton suburban with good results.
Good recommendation! Especially because KYB has a rebate right now for a 4 shock purchase. They tended to have good reviews when I was researching recently, but I wasn’t looking at 7.3 shocks.
I just put a set on the 66 F100 over the weekend and they seemed to do well in the 15 mile test drive. I don’t have any real feedback yet. Definitely better than whatever dad had on there previously. The old fronts were Monroe but the back had no sticker and the numbers wouldn’t pull anything on a Google search.

No idea, but dad was happy with those. Don’t know what he had to pay for them but I believe it was a little more than the (suspected) Monroe.
And I can relate about the ole memorizer not doing it’s job!
edit to add: INFRNL, please don’t take my comments as arguing with yours. Shocks are a personal preference and you are absolutely free to have your own opinion on the subject. I was just sharing mine as well.
I installed the Bilstein 4600HD's in 2016 in order to replace the OEM shocks and improve the ride quality when the 5th wheel is on the back. They did and do a great job. Although, they might be considered a "big brand name" to you, so you may not be interested in them.
Sometimes it is worth the time, effort and money to purchase a reputable product from a reputable seller instead of revisiting the same repair/improvement twice, thrice or way too many times.
