I believe I've only noticed single clunks on my 2023. If it's double clunked I haven't heard it. Sometimes they are not very pronounced. And as you said, it's only when cold or having sat for a while from what I can tell. With a 5 yr 60k powertrain warranty I'm not too worried about it yet, but will follow your outcome. I can tell you that on some facebook groups there are multiple comments saying they have this clunk, including 2023 trucks. So I would call it somewhat common. Some people may have this noise and not even realize it like us OCD people
Haha! My biggest concern is that I know I will run out of time on the warranty way before I run out of miles. Were you able to view the video?
Yes I was able to listen to the video, I heard what sounded like two possible clunks. Where was the microphone located for this video? Underneath the truck?
I will run out of warranty on time before miles as well, I don't drive the truck a lot as it's not my daily driver. If things get more pronounced or worse, it is always possible to extend your powertrain warranty before it expires though. I might wait until year 4 and if anything is concerning to me at that time, I will consider extending the warranty then.

I guess the audio only uploaded, I will try a different route. The video was taken with a gopro style camera mounted under the truck using its microphone.
Do your 4x4 lockouts have an Auto and Lock position on both or is one a fixed lockout? Fluid levels in the trans, transfer case and rear end? Ford has been known to skimp on fluids or overfill a transmission or 2.

Auto and Lock on both hubs. It makes the noise with both in either position. All fluids checked for proper fill. I made a similar video with a view of the front driveshaft and axle to check for movement there and all seemed fine.
I would be moving that go pro around to pinpoint the noise. It would have to get louder the closer it is to the noise.
Of the two I made, the one viewing the front axle does seem to be louder. It was mounted to the transmission crossmember while the one above was mounted to the gas tank skid plate. I will post the other video for reference.
After watching and replaying them many times watching different parts that move it seems after watching the second video the noise seems to be when/ during the shifting process then moving like a flex plate or something in the transmission.

I did take a transmission fluid sample from the standpipe to send with my truck to the dealership. I kept a small sample for myself as well. It looks clean and clear in the daylight but sparkles quite a bit with a good flashlight shined at it.
I need to drive mine again and check, but I feel like I normally hear the noise after already driving forward a few feet and already rolling. Yours appears to be more during the shift, or as soon as you start rolling forward at that instant. Could be that I don't have the same noise as you, either. "clunks" are hard to diagnose
Following this thread.
I just got back from the dealer with the same issue. My truck, 22’ 7.3L 4.30 gears. 13k miles now and it’s done it since new. I described it as a “clunk” in and out of drive and reverse when cold, and a drastic “lurch”. I have about 8 months left on the PT warranty so I thought I Would take it in. After 2 trips to the dealer sitting in the truck with them to replicate it, their answers was…
“ this noise is a characteristic of the 10R140 trans, this is the parking pawl engaging when there is torque applied. The lurching concern is also normal operation, and is exacerbated by the aftermarket lift and tires”
I’m not a mechanic, but I know that is a cop out answer. There is 100% a problem with this. It’s not normal in the slightest. It did this from day one off the lot before I put the Carli leveling kit on. I’ll take it back around March again with the same complaint and see what they say. Likely nothing again. I’ll go to a different dealer after that. Going to buy the extended warranty from Granger as well.
We're happy to help. It is never a bad idea to get a second opinion. Riding with a technician and duplicating the concern is the best route, so you are doing that correctly.
