What’s the fluid level at?
Tell us more about your rig. You can add these details in your sig.
I see the details in the first post. 99 e350 5.4
Both of my vans shift slow cold. Like when I first leave the house on cold days. My 01 e350 is the worst about it. It also seems underpowered when it’s cold.

Fluid level is spot on, not discolored or smell burned or anything. Prior to this shifting aberration now, it was super smooth through all gears, about the most perfect trans behavior of any vehicle I've had. Torque convert lock up at 55 mph as programmed on the new chip. I can't recall the details on the rebuild by John, but I know he did some magic with revalving, springs, etc.
Do you have a cel on? If so you have a code stored.
I also have a aftermarket valve body and trans go plate, mine is from bts. I didn’t need tuning for mine. I do have tuning on that van now and it doesn’t effect me scanning it at all.
edit,
I just realized all of my fords are tuned. 2 w hydra, 2 with superchips. The super chips were free.
the hydra is great, my fave. I have high idle tunes for long idle in hot weather. Allows the ac to cool better. Tow tunes and daily driving.

Check Engine Light is not/did not come on. I have OD button on the end of the shifter, when on it lights up OD indicator light on the ****. I was told that will flash off/on if code thrown. But that did not happen either. I wish I could take it to BTS siince JW is out of business now, but long drive from California!
Here’s the 7.3 diesel tech page. Scroll down to diagnostics and there are some options for forscan. Forscan and a Bluetooth adapter are a economical way to scan your ford. I know yours is gas, forscan is still great even for gassers.
@Mark Kovalsky Mark, you mentioned in another thread the importance of a the right scanner. Would Forscan give good data for this? Trans shifts from 1st to 3rd, won't go into second. Shift lever same. It will stay in 1st until I let up slightly on the gas, then it will go into 3rd. Also, I need an adapter for the input? Plugs into connector under steering column also?
World commander, if you click the link above that I included in my last message you can learn a lot about forscan. It will find “soft” codes. There are links in that thread to direct you to the Bluetooth adapter aka dongle that works.
I was just reading on that thread yesterday. I had to get the forscan app on my new phone and I always like to know if there are new features available.

Forscan will read all of the codes.
You can download it free at www.forscan.org. Their page shows how to select an OBDII adapter. Yes, it plugs in under the dash. I bought mine from Amazon for less than $30.

Finally got Forscan and checked the vehicle. No codes. To recap, the trans (4R100), stays in 1st until you let up on the gas at about 20 mph then it goes into third. I've been wondering if there is possibly some debris in the valve body (this was the case in another thread on forum here) because I haven't changed fluid and filter at recommended maintenance level. Would you recommend pull the whole trans out for inspection or is there some other diagnostic that might pin point the problem?
