There is a good writeup in this site somewhere on how to go about a complete fluid change. It is a simple operation and worked very well, do a search on fluid change.
You can pump the pan dry, and pump out the old fluid from the converter while replacing it with new fluid. There is no way to pump the torque converter dry.
If your '02 was one of the early ones it may have a drain plug in the torque converter. Ford stopped installing drain plugs in August, 2001.
If I remember my truck was built Feb '02. Since the reccomended tranny fluid is no longer readily available I was going to go with synth, but wanted to get all the old out. I would think that if I can not drain the torque converter I will be left with a blend instead of synth.
Depending on your mechanical skills and willingness to be elbow deep in ATF, you might want to just bring it somewhere to have it changed
If it's as simple as disconnecting a pipe, and feeding it into a 5 gallon pail, how bad can it be. I already did the sonnex valve, and yest that was a mess.

I've never done an ATF change, even with all the hose I want, where I didn't get SOME of it on me
Just try disconnecting a tranny line and see what flows out
I'm being somewhat sarcastic, but having someone do it for you is certainly an option. I do everything myself, it's not an option for me
I was thinking about it and wonder if this would work, basically the same way I did my 50 gallon water heater. Connect an air compressor to the tranny where the return line is diconnect and let the air flow the fluid out.
