1955 Ford C600 CoE engine colour

Hi gurus, wanting to check the correct engine colours for my 272 Y block in my 55 Ford C600. Am I correct that they were yellow and is it yellow with black rocker covers or were any black or red in a C600? Thanks in advance

In 55 the 239's were yellow with argent valve covers. The bigger engines were still red with argent valve covers. All 54 engines were red.

I have a dealer brochure showing the engine choices in 1955. I'll post pics later.

Are you sure you have the 272 in a F600? They would have come with 6 cylinders or the 239. Unless yours a special order or the engine was installed later.

Thanks Abe, would love to see the pics of the brouchure - mine is a C600 CabOver, not F600. Its the prime mover short stubby with prime mover fuel tanks and yes has a Y block V8 which I believe is the 272 and was period correct for the Cabover unless I am mistaken?

Here's what the Ford Dealer catalog showed.

The F750 and up got the bigger red engines called the Cargo King. And there was no 272 in 55.

Is your data plate still on the glove box door? Show us a pic of that. It will tell you what engine was in originally.

I see from your profile you're in Australia, is your truck domestic built or imported? If imported, do you know if it is US production or Canada, or someplace else? Most of the information we have is for US production and may or may not apply to your truck. In the states, the serial number for your truck should begin with C60, followed by the engine code of V for 239 or Z for 256. Those were the only engine options for US production C600's in '55, according to the Ford Chassis Parts Catalog.

Thanks Wayne. Yes, that changes things . I THINK trucks going to Australia were built in Canada and they might have other build specs.

Was this truck shipped new to Australia in 1955 or was it shipped to Australia later as a used truck? Is it right hand drive?

Thanks guys, truck is in Australia, but I brought it in Arizona. I managed to find attached pic from over a decade ago when I got it which does have some yellow on it by the looks of it. I put a ranchero motor in it which was red, so looks like the pics you provided help confirm it all for me, thanks so much!

In 55 it could be the 239 OR the 256. The 256 was the optional HD y block for the C-F 600
