I have a 256 cubic inch y block in a 1955 F100, according to the paper work this is the orriginal engine.
The engine rebuild is nearing completion and it will need painting.
Can anyone here tell me what colour it should be, or direct me to some where I could find out.

Im pretty certain that 256 is in fact mercury but I have not been able to track down any info
I wanted to say, i appreciate the tahnks, i've always wished this forum could be more of a family thing. But anyway, you have you colors now, silver valve covers and a yellow block......Janet
Kevin, didn't Earl (george) post colors for engines etc, using paint available now? I seem to remember the color Daytona Yellow for the engine but can't recall the manufacturer. A search should turn up the info.
BTW KEvin, I appreciate your web page. II use it sometimes for when I take something off and forgot exactly how it went back.

I'll tell you what kind of yellow i would use, because the originals i have seen seem to have a depth type yellow, the only yellow i have ever seen that seems about the same (being that my husband used to work on 18 wheelers too), is Caterpillar yellow....Janet
