OK let’s start with 01 E350 V 10. The battery light is on the gauge says it’s charging. But it’s not charging the battery. Pulled the alternator had it checked two different places. The alternator is charging.
can someone tell me what I’m missing?
Check the strip fuse beside the engine bay fuse box under a plastic cover marked ALT.
Have the battery tested. Mind that you might have two batteries; one under the hood, one under the cargo floor by the side door step. Or who knows where if you have a cargo truck or motorhome.
I checked the fuse it’s good, and I only have one battery. The cable between the battery in the alternator is good. Which one in the three wire connector is the trigger wire from the PCM.
You need the Ford EVTM for your particular van
There should be an alternator field fuse on yours too IIRR
The EVTM will say for sure
If I hit the library in the next day or two, I'll post what you need because of your first sentence.

Agreed 100% and given the market for such manuals these days here's a good example: 2010 E Series EVTM
Every DIY E-Series owes it to themselves to have one of these at hand.
Thank for the help. Turn out you can teach an old dog new tricks. I learned not to always trust the test bench/operator at your local parts store. Alternator is bad. Thanks again and I will have more questions.

I had one with a short in it, dash light came on under WOT, did it for a year, alternator kept testing good, finally burned out, I had it rebuilt, guy said a diode was the cause.
