battery light came on

my battery light came on and i am not a mechanic, can some one give me some pointers, the belt is still good, after driving truck home for 25 min. both batteries still have over 12 am in them, how can i check the alternator to see if charging and why is my light on. thank you

With a DMM while your vehicle is running, connect both leads to the battery posts, you should have like 13-14 volts to your battery if your alternator is working properly.
