I got the free turkey. A designer bird. This may be the fanciest turkey I have ever had. As I normally get whatever is on sale. Or this bird may just have a highly paid marketing team behind it.
I'm always learning. And always amazed by what I learn. According to The Member Economy of Taipei, turkey is extremely popular in that part of the world.
I guess APEC works. In The USA, turkeys are produced all year around. They go into cold storage, until Turkey Day. What to do with all of the unsold turkeys? Send them to Taiwan. It's not a real country. The United Nations does not recognize them. The government is completely corrupt and full of criminals who bring gangs to fight during meetings of Parliament. The elected officials are members of organized crime groups. They don't even hide it. Their associations are public knowledge.
They only exist as a puppet of The USA. Without US financial aid, food aid, military aid..... they would not be able to exist. The perfect dumping ground for USA leftovers.
Wow. Learn something new every day. I didn't know that about Taiwan.
Walmart cancelled my Nakamichi order and Affirm issued me a refund for the down payment needed to buy it. Walmart first told me the order was delayed and would not be there Thursday. Then two days later, they send me an email and text telling me the item is out of stock and they will issue a refund. and then they end it with "You can always re-order the item". LOL Why would I do that since you don't have it?
Wal*Mart would not be my first choice for a car stereo. You can find similar stereos for much less online. There's Amazon & eBay. Plenty of "made in China" stereos with plenty more features, for half the price. I got a car stereo loaded with features from Amazon, and it works great. A brand that I've never heard of. In today's world, most of the car radios from brands you have heard of, are usually made in a factory in China. Even if it says Made in the USA. What they do is make it in China, ship it to the USA for final assembly, then call it Made in the USA. Assume that all they did here was insert an operating chip, place the back cover on, and fasten 3 screws. What the Chinese factory does is produce extra units without the brand name on it, then sell it online. You can't even call it a knock-off. It's essentially the same thing, without the brand name sticker.
One of the better places to buy a car radio is Crutchfield.com .
Wow. Learn something new every day. I didn't know that about Taiwan.
It's not just turkeys. We're also dumping off our unwanted military supplies there. Imagine one huge landfill full of military surplus garbage. Old boots, size XXS jackets, guns & ammo, backpacks & poncho liners, MREs...... et cetera.
The only reason I tried to buy the Nakamichi at Walmart was because Crutchfield.com didn't sell that brand. Amazon sold it, but it was twice as expensive. Jensen isn't Nakamichi, neither is Podunk, or portfolio, or whatever pork name that is. I was looking for Nakamichi. I found it at Walmart. When looking on Crutchfield.com they showed the Jensen brand, for the same price you have listed. Didn't want Jensen. Anyway, I will wait until I get the truck back before looking again. No sense buying one only to have it sitting around waiting to be installed.
Taiwan is controversial, to say the least. Currently, there is the Republic of China. Prior to that, it was governed by different politics. Only nobody really acknowledges that the Island of Formosa has people native to that area who are not Chinese or Japanese. Just like people of Okinawa who have their own unique language, culture, and practices. They are a minority. A large part of the population is Chinese. The government is Chinese. The Chinese feel that it's Chinese territory, without consideration of native Islanders.
My opinion is that native Islanders should be restored to govern themselves. Not popular. Okinawa, Marshall Islands, Formosa, Guam, Micronesia, American Samoa, Hawaii....... Nobody wants to lose any territory of influence. Not to mention that none of those natives would be able to stand without support from a larger nation.
The government and nation of Taiwan is there, whether they are recognized or not. And the people are eating turkey with gravy. I am living in The USA and it effects me only to the extent of Taiwan Semiconductor chips in my consumer electronics. Someone recently asked me, "you don't care if the Communist seize the island?". I'm not too worried. TSM built a US factory.
How the US annexed Hawaii is deplorable in my opinion...

I don't recall any occasion in history where the people in a land were happy to lose their land. Every time there's any sort of change in power, someone has to suffer for the victory. But history is written by the victor. The world is just not nice. People are not nice. Are the people on the Island of Formosa really better off with the United States of America sending turkeys?
