ACC carpets and cab dimensions.

I ordered carpet for my 1985 extended cab, super cab, XLT Lariat, auto trans, 2wd drive long bed.
Ordered through automotive interiors with the Essex option and the mass backing.
While going to install, it seems like it is entirely too long and for a high hump or standard transmission model.
Like for a crew cab.
I called ACC and they said they had no molds for a crew cab as there were not any crew cabs made that year.
I am thinking that their mold is for a crew cab instead of super cab and they do not know it.
Has anyone else had that problem?
And most importantly, does anyone have floor pan dimensions? I could not find any for those models.
I just talked with automotive interiors and sent pictures and they are looking into it.
Can anyone shed any light on the subject?

I thought some of the carpets went up the rear wall?
Sorry cant be of more help my truck came with a rubber mat and someone gave me a good used carpet in the right color.
It was for a auto and I got a manual but made it work.

There is plastic trim for the back wall.
Plus the back of the carpet I received has sewn on trim and it you cut any off any of the rear you would loose all the preformed part.

If I was in the business of selling carpet for owners to install themselves, I would make them oversize so the customer has plenty of carpet to work with.

I originally ordered the carpet from Bronco Graveyard in their standard backing as they did not offer it with the Essex pile cut in my color, only black.
When I got it from Bronco Graveyard I just thought it was a bad fit and decided to order a better quality carpet hoping it would fit better.
Now I have two sets of carpet that do not fit worth a hoot.
Am currently waiting to hear back from both of them, (Bronco and Automotive Interiors) as ACC carpets, (the manufacturer of both) would not deal directly with me.
What fun.
Not....

Still hoping someone with a crew cab can give me some dimensions of their floor pan.
And from where their carpet starts in the very front to the front of the B pillar and from
there to the rear wall following the contours as much as possible.

here are some pictures.

Bronco Graveyard Carpet

Bronco Graveyard Carpet
The above was the standard cut pile carpet.
Below is the Essex carpet with the mass backing

The mass backing is some really thick vinyl of some sort.
Gonna have to learn how to size pictures to upload here....

Your truck is not a crew cab. It's a super cab. That might be why your carpet is long?

Ford had another designation than super cab. Maybe extended cab?

Big Blue 2.
What made you think I thought I had a Crew Cab?

I am hoping someone with a Crew Cab will post some measurements of his carpet and floor pan.
That is what I believe that is what my carpet fits.
I think ACC Carpet Manufacturing has their Crew Cab and Super Cab molds mixed up.
Although they say they don't as they say there was not a Crew Cab made that year.

BTW, AFAIK
The correct terminology is....
Ford has the Super Cab
Chevrolet has the Extended Cab.
Although most of the time I use extended cab to describe my truck........

I don't think ACC has different molds for Super cab & Crew cab Fords. They have one generic mold they use for every brand & type of cab that sorta works. If you get something that fits, it is pure luck. I'm sure they do the same thing for cars as well.

If it is offered, I would use cut & sewn.

I'm sorry, my bad. I lost track of your opening post, just saw you were asking for crew cab dimensions and posting supercab photos....

Glad you posted that as I am going to send both of them a link to this discussion and they can see that.

Scottscott
I sure hope that is not what they are doing.
With that thick almost rubber tire type backing?,..., mass backing,... there is really not much altering you can do
with that particular carpet molding.
With the other regular molded one with regular backing... , you could alter it but it would still be a real PITA.
It would almost be easier to just start with a roll of carpet.

Still have not heard back from either but know it will probably take a few days.

Some updates.

I did not really expect them to but I got a full refund from Bronco Graveyard and am thankful!

Automotive Interiors is a good company to work with as at least they tried to get things right.
They had ACC make me another and shipped it to me at no cost.
Also at no cost they had UPS pick up the first one they sent me yesterday afternoon so they could inspect it.
The second one is the same as the first as to poor fitting.

Am going to gamble and hope I can cut and make this one fit as this part of my project has gone on long enough.
Just hope I do not have to scrap it.

I can not believe that I am the only one with an extended cab that has noticed the bad fit from ACC carpets.

Also tried and so did Automotive interiors try to get some dimensions from ACC but could not get any.

Now,...what I just noticed is the carpet fits the extended cab from 1980 to 1996.
And that got me to wondering if there are any cab dimension changes from the 80 to 86 versus the 87 to 96 Extended-Super Cab trucks.

So......
Does anyone out there know if any cab dimensions were changed for the later model extended cab trucks?
Especially lengthwise???
Also noticed that where they sewed the edge banding on that you are not supposed to trim,...
That the curved out part to go behind the B pillar is different from side to side.
Like one door is shorter, (or longer) than the other, or the doors are mounter further forward (or backward) from side to side.

All I wanted to do is put new carpet in, not get involved in a saga or long term deal..
Luck of the draw!!!

GP

There are thousands of bad reviews for ACC carpet, across all makes & models. The stuff just doesn't fit. But they are pretty much the only game in town, they make carpet for all the others to resell, no matter who you buy it from.

Good luck with your project, I hope you can get something to work.
