Headliner Question

So, I've posted some questions about the interior swap I'm doing and before I continue I had one more. So I have an '83 that did not come with a headliner or any "fancy" trim just a dash and seat belt mechanism covers. But, I'm swapping in an interior from an '86 (I believe) and my truck doesn't have the holes above the doors for the metal clips of the trim to click into, and I don't want to use self tappers because they'll poke out the other side. Any ideas?

The roof is double wall isn't it? If the clip would not poke through a short screw wouldn't. Here's a link. https://www.garysgaragemahal.com/interior-trim.html

Yes it's double walled but where I would need to attach this portion is so thin that a self tappers even if it were small would poke through. It's maybe an 8th of an inch thick.
