So I just purchased a 2019 F-250 XLT that only came with one flip key. What is the best way to get a replacement Ford flip key fob and have it programmed? Can you order a genuine Ford fob off eBay somewhere? I don’t really want to pay the dealer $250 for the key then another $100 to program it.
Also, I’ve read somewhere that Ace hardware can make a plain key that will work? Is this true?
Any tips appreciated as I would like one more genuine Ford flip key then maybe a couple plain emergency keys.
Thanks!
Some of your larger lock & key stores will be able to program them. I bought a OEM fob for my Mazda and took it to a local lock & key store where they cut the door key and programmed it for $50.
Dealerships often use mobile locksmiths, call one direct and save some money. I ran one of mine over with my lawnmower... I paid $240 he came to my office at work and took my good fob to his van and parked next to my truck. 15 minutes he was out of there.
If you have two original fobs you have the option to buy a factory Ford fob for $79 or a non Ford part for $50 on line. I bought the factory Ford fob. It took less than 1 minute for the truck to program the new fob. The internal key would need to be cut but I have never used that part of the fob so it will be as it is. If you only have one key this will not help but it is a great investment compared to the cost of visiting the dealer for a fob and possibly paying $400 plus.
I've got a 2021 F350 and I bought the Ford fob for $79 and did the programing buy inserting the first key, second key then the new key. Locks cycled and said it had was now programed. Truck now starts with the new key/fob but the doors won't open or lock with the new one. I've tried it several times with the same results. Did you open and lock the doors?
