I lost my second key a few few months ago and kept putting off buying a replacement. A few threads on here said you have to go to the dealer to get a replacement key reprogrammed when you are down to 1 working key but I found this isn't true.
I went to a local locksmith last week and ordered an aftermarket 3 button fob for $85. I stopped at the locksmith this afternoon and they cut the new key and programmed it with some expensive looking OBD tool for $56. So in total, I dropped a $136 for a replacement key outside and avoided a trip to the dealer. Hope this helps someone else when they lose a key.
I had just got me a second key . Bought a used 2017. Only had one key . Ordered me a new oem key on eBay for I think 38 bucks . Took it to my local lock smith he cut and programmed it for 50 or 60 bucks .

I bought a salvage key off E-bay. It came from another Ford Truck that either got totalled or the owner just didn't turn in both keys when he sold it. Fairly cheap, but I don't remember how muc, ( 3 years ago) Since I had two original keys, I just reprogramed it as a 3rd key for 2017 truck and when I got my 2020, I reprogramed it again for that truck. I got the dealer to throw in cutting a new black to match my truck as part of the sales deal. So I have a third key. In my case, I have one key in my pocket, A 2nd key at home in a safe place, in case my wife or somebody needs to move the truck while I'm gone, and a 3rd key hidden in the truck in a Fairaday bag, ( so the electronics can't see it) in case I loose my key while out camping/exploring the mountains. Too often I'm 30 miles from the nearest cell phone signal and If I lost a key, it would cost dearly to get towed in.
When I got my new truck I had two keys. I kept putting off buying a third to program until I lost one. Had the dealer make a new one (~$120 IIRC). Then bought an additional one off eBay. Programmed that one so now I had three. A day later found the one I lost. So now I have four.
easiest way to find something you lost is buy another one and the lost one is likely to show up just as soon as you can't return the recently purchased one.

I'm in the market for one. I'm down to one now. Wife promptly lost her key the first month we had it, and I've never bothered to get another one. But think it's a good idea now, seeing what happens if we lose/damage the only remaining one.
