I’m not a big EV guy by any means, especially new ones, but the Epup is the Perfect conversion vehicle. I’ve considered conversion, or hybrid for mine and look forward to your build.
As to the tailgate, if you aren’t looking for original there are lots of options. Most of the customs seem to use custom built or modified original smooth tailgates.
I’m thinking about building something out of cedar or reclaimed wood for my rustomod. The current tailgate is probably beyond help.
I guess really it depends on the theme of your build. I’m glad I’m not restoring!
Do what suits you and have fun!
If you're not doing a restoration, I made a real simple tailgate years ago for an F150 delivery truck we had. I bolted a 3x1.5" channel iron on the 2 sides and welded up an Angle iron/expanded metal drop in gate. 2 hr project and did the trick, looked pretty good too.
Good stuff looking forward to seeing the conversion I considered it but I don't know enough about to attempt and the cost is still too high.. I met a fellow this summer you installed a Nissan leaf motor in his van - works good it wasn't pretty but he is driving it he has a YouTube video posted on his conversion. Good luck
Hit the road today on EV power , still lots to do and paint over the winter. Will check the rake when loaded to get the stance right. For those haters I have all the ice components but went EV as it was a challenge, 125 mile range top speed 65 will do just fine for me. Added front power disc brakes, EPS not that it will need it, new king pins and electric parking brake. This will be my wife’s Ride to take kayaks to the lake so next up is a hydraulic bed loader to make that process easier. Just keeping busy doing car guy things….
I have all the trim and headlights etc, all that’s in boxes in anticipation of paint. I just hit the road for a quick proof of concept drive to ensure everything was correct. Right now all the harness wiring is just layed out. Now that I know it works I will spend the time laying out things properly and mounting items , extending wires
as necessary and mounting the majority of the components in the dog house area. Once that’s done I can share some pics of that set up.
I looked into converting an Econoline to EV several years ago, just when AC motors were becoming a thing. I have not looked into it since, so looking forward to the seeing the fruit of your research.
I used the D&D disc brake kit https://www.dddiscbrakes.com combined with a power brake booster https://abspowerbrake.com/products/1...ford-econoline the only issue is the calipers are larger so the wheel clearance can be an issue. There are plenty of vacuum pumps , reservoirs and switches to power it available as I did not have an engine for a vacuum source, I went EV
, I also see you can make your own brackets and use Front Disc Brake Rotors For 1992-2001 Toyota Camry 255mm Front Disc / calipers for a smaller package.
Hi there,
yes, one of the first things I did as with the battery weight be more centrally located under the bed no chance of a nose stand.
now that I know it works , runs and drives I will spend time to extend the wire harness where needed so that it fits the Econoline layout
