When I first read this thread I called them and spoke to Dianne and expressed my surprise and my condolences. I hadn't bought from them in a long time and hadn't received a catalog in years. I asked her if she could send me one for a keepsake. She said if she finds one she'll send it to me. I didn't get one.
Agreed, a sickness for sure. I did the same thing awhile back when this thread was first posted, bought a bunch of stuff I thought I might want one day just in case, but likely won't need or use. The bigger problem now is finding a "safe place' to put them that I'll remember where they are, if and when the time comes to actually need to want them.
Dang Wayne,,, you got me there with "actually need to want them" How many times have I wanted something never even considering needing to want it....specially when I was young. I went straight to want. I might have become a rich man if'n I got my needing before my wanting.
I think I might be sad about this... but don't know if I need to or want to !!!
Sorry to see this business close. They were a single point source for many unique parts for our trucks that many relied upon. One of the other aspects of this business was the many suppliers who fabricated the parts to stock MidFity's catalog...not sure if it was the loss of the demand or the loss of the source but something in the system broke down. Like others have expressed, I have a lot of good memories of Sy and Diane and the staff who made the emptying of my wallet less painful.
Sad to see this happening never bought from them but I was thinking about buying from them, dose midfifty sell parts that they are the only ones who make it and have it or just normal reproduction parts?
It wasn't so much what they sold, but the way they did business. It was a small business run by hands on, knowledgeable people who loved and cared about old trucks and our hobby, and you dealt directly with those folks, not a minimum wage phone answerer at a megalopolis multi-line corporation who's only knowledge about our trucks and their parts was the limited information that would pop up on their tv screen, if you were lucky enough to have your call answered by someone who could read.
Before this thread drifts to the back of FTE, never to be seen again, I'll comment to say they will be missed. I was cleaning up the shop and ran across two items that are worthy of saving. I found in a pile of books, a near-perfect Mid Fifty catalog from 2015 and a "flying Ford truck" remembrance pin. The pin was in honor of four employees who had passed away, all at relatively early ages. RIP, Mid Fifty.
I bought 5 of these last week. I figured added protection on the trucks that are pulled in nose first from incidental contact Once they are gone they will be gone
but 1/2 of my order for other items was no longer available

They would send you those pins for free if you asked them to. A good friend of mine who owned many 53's, 54's and 55 F-100's died some years back. I saw those pins in Mid-Fifty's catalog, and thought the family might appreciate having a number of them to pass out at his visitation and funeral. I called Mid-Fifty and they sent me some 50 of them, 2nd day even! The family Loved them (just like all of us, these trucks were his life!) and about everyone in attendance was wearing one.
Since then, most everytime I ordered parts from Mid-Fifty, I would ask if I could get another 5 or 10 of them. I would keep collecting until I had enough yet for another club member's services if the family wanted them, and they did! They turned into a nice keepsake to (just like Sy said in her catalogs) remind us of those who are no longer with us, but loved these trucks!
I just wanted to say Thank You to Mid-Fifty for the kindness of sharing and sending the Angel Wing Truck pins for my friends funeral and the 2 or 3 other F-100 owners who we lost that I managed to save pins for. The families really loved them as they could use a little "up lift" at such a difficult time of loss.
It's another reason I will always miss Mid-Fifty!

On back of the front cover of most Mid-Fifty catalogs there is a memorial to 4 of the folks that helped made Mid-Fifty what it was. It talks a little bit about the pin and its meaning. It's a great message and to me a reminder of how lucky we all are to be part of this wonderful Ford truck extended family!
I got a new speedometer head, 12V oil and fuel gauges, a new battery tray, and some random wiring parts (bulb socket pigtails, etc.) I don't really need, but they were practically giving them away. I have to confess, I did split the order to minimize the shipping costs. (saved $5.01)
All-in-all, the total, including shipping, was about the regular price of just the speedometer head.
