I might look for a pair of god used stainless caps. When I first fixed up my truck in 98-99 I had 4 stainless caps but then sold them and put on these painted steel caps....
The prices went down but the shipping went up? Last week it was 9.99 for $0-&50 and now it is 24.99 for the same thing.
I was just looking through things and most stuff would cost more in shipping than the actual product. I pondered buying fiberglass fenders but I don't need them and most likely never will. But you could save them to sell later if you had the storage space.
Agreed, a sickness for sure. I did the same thing awhile back when this thread was first posted, bought a bunch of stuff I thought I might want one day just in case, but likely won't need or use. The bigger problem now is finding a "safe place' to put them that I'll remember where they are, if and when the time comes to actually need to want them.
Just so everyone knows. In the mid fifty paper catalog in the spare tire section. It shows the reproduction cast iron wing nut offered. I supplied that solely to mid 50. So if anyone needs one I have them. They are expensive to make but they are near perfect
IT'S A SAD DAY IN MUDVILLE TODAY...
I will always remember the day I was driving my panel home after just purchasing it. Had stopped for gas at a truck stop and a bite to eat next door. I couldn't get the passenger door to lock and didn't want to leave it unlocked with luggage and tools inside, so I had the inside door inspection panel off, laying on the door sill up to my elbow inside the door spraying the latch and lock with oil, when this middle aged woman comes walking up to me. Since we were somewhere near E. Bumfart TX, I figured she want to talk about the Lord or have me donate to something...
"Always something needing tinkering with on these old trucks..." She says. "Hi!, I'm Sy from Mid Fifty, can I offer you one of our catalogs?" I recognized the catalog because the seller had given us a copy with the paperwork for the truck, and the wife and I had been going thru it between turns diving, making a list of what we would order when we got home. " Nice 56 Panel you've got there by the way..."
I warmed up from being interrupted, since I had just gotten the lock working again, and told her we had just bought it in NM and were driving it home to NC. I told her we had been drooling over the catalog and since the one I had was a year old, I'd love a new one. We walked together back to the gas pumps to her car and trailer while she explained she was headed home from a show somewhere. After that She and I would talk for a couple minutes each time I called with an order or a question.
She ran a very tight ship with an all female staff before she retired that I admired her for. RIP Mid Fifty, you'll be missed.
Nice story , Ax. I never met Sy but she knew me by name when I called. Years ago, like 1998, there was a question in the catalog about the colors of yblocks. Sy and the others thought 54-56 all were yellow . I had just bought a 54 full color Dealer catalog that showed 54 engines in red. I went to Kinkos or Staples and got color copies and mailed them to her. In the next catalog and many after that they listed the colors of the engines correctly. For 54 they said "Red (by Abe).
Then when they got bigger Sy wasn't answering phones as much. Then it was Diane that I would talk to.
Mid-Fifty had a lot of things in their catalog that when you wanted to say, add power steering, you could look in their catalog and see what was available, and consider the options. Same thing if you wanted to go to a different gas tank, change to disc brakes, change interiors, dash clusters, wiring harnesses, steering columns, etc...etc. It was all right there! Not to mention the little nifty touches Sy and her gals came up with for cool accessories. It was a great resource for us.
I am really going to miss the level of support they provided.
I wish the Best for all their employees and the owners.

I suppose for the custom/modified truck builds they were the go to place. I never once purchased anything from them. I'm a believer in great used or nos parts, until both of those avenues are explored only then would I decide on reproduction, and even then I purchased from the source. I was always a supporter of Dennis Carpenter as they made the closest to OEM replacement parts. And why purchase from mid fifty when I had an independent Dennis carpenter dealer to supply me and no shipping costs or tax. That was the luxury that I had for years.
they did offer a lot and it is too bad that for the non stock guy that needs or wants PS or PB or the custom roll pan.
