I have been searching through old post to find out. I KNOW it has been discussed. What dark blue is on a 79 460? My valve covers are ok but the oil pan needs paint. I do not want the bright blue.
It’s known as old Ford blue. At least that’s what duplicolor calls it.
i suggest looking at por15’s brush on engine paint. They have a ford blue that looks more like the dark blue and corporate ford blue that looks like the newer color.
imo the duplicolor engine paint doesn’t hold up very well from a durability standpoint. It flakes very easy and chemicals seem to do a quick number on it. This is in spite of their claims otherwise.
Found this in those above threads...I was looking for a paint code # The blue used on 1966-1968 Ford engines is a darker blue than used on earlier Ford 352 valve covers. The correct color is TRW #630224 or Eastwood's "dark Ford blue."
Krylon #1923, Dupli-Color #1606 and Plasti-Kote #224 are a few of the rattle can paints closest in color.
Plasti-Kote #224 is the closest in color to the original "Ford corporate blue".
I recently replaced an engine in an 80's GMC C7500 (366) for a dyed-in-the-wool anti-Ford guy.
I painted it "old Ford blue" because at that point I knew it would at least last a while. He wasn't too impressed but I didn't want to have to do the job again.
