I recently received a comment about the color of my engine, I am very criticle of what others think about my truck.
A person just told me that my engine had way too much blue on it, is that person right, Please look under my gallery, where there are current pictures of the engine.
Way too much blue compared to what?? Looks like a nice clean engine. There are all sorts of debates what the engines were like from the factory -- I think the 352 actually was RED (yep). Be happy, start learning to take other persons comments in context.
Some people, when jealous, will ALWAYS have a negative comment. Other people (I am one of those) are absolute perfectionists. Instead of saying "Nice engine, might not be quite original, but nice" -- they think that, but say "too much blue".
Being a 67, the engine should be "old ford blue". This color blue is darker than the "new ford blue". You have the "new ford blue", which to me almost looks the same as mopar blue. If you really want to be correct, you would want to use the darker "old ford blue". I painted mine with old ford blue, but I don't have a digi camera to take a pix at hand...Look at the brochures on bumpersides...They have a picture of the engines in old ford blue. But, if it doesn't bother you, I wouldn't worry about what others think... Tell them to go buy the new batch of "old ford blue" paint, and you'll be glad to repaint it. That'll shut em up quick...
But if it bothers you, it wouldn't really cost much to repaint. One can will do it. I use duplicolor engine enamel with ceramic. The number for Duplicolor "old ford blue" is "DE1621 OLD FORD BLUE". It's on the bar code label. Covers good . Autozone has it..I think you will notice the number of the color you used is slightly different, and they call it "new ford blue". The guy I work with bought some for his engine and made the same mistake. He didn't realize they had old and new colors. Anyway, your friend is right... It's the wrong blue to be 1967 *correct*. MK
The can's of paint I actually bought said old ford blue #205, I forget what brand they were, I would have to go check in my supply box, it was either duplicolor or plastikote. I thought my motor looked just fine, but this person said I should paint all of the pulleys and the valve covers black, because it would look better.
Hummm..That paint co. has the wrong color. It's too bright for "old ford blue". The pullys are normally black. "Most anyway". But the valve covers are normally blue. This should fill in the gaps for you, and also shows the correct shade of "old ford blue". The duplicolor # I gave earlier is a good match for that color. But like many said, if you like it, I wouldn't worry about it. Heck, give it two years and it will all get dirty and grimy anyway...I had mine all repainted including the firewall, fender wells, etc...Hard to keep it all clean...Mine is starting to get a layer of road grime on it. Also, dummy me sprayed oil all over my repainted firewall adjusting my valves with the engine running about three times over the past two years...Need to repaint it again. This is a picture of a 67 352 straight from the factory brochure. http://web.wt.net/~nm5k/67-352.jpg

I think the color looks good. FOr me, unless the project is a full on restoration back to 100 factory I would stick with it. Painting pulleys & valve covers is (almost) easy. All you have to do is remove them and repaint them if you dont like the color.
I am thinking your buddy is either jealous or or just want to be a know it all. If he wants to help (and you can stand him) then he could have more of a say in making it factory perfect.
While talking about paint...I've noticed lately from looking at the 68 factory brochures that my grille paint is incorrect. I had thought that some "plain jane" grilles were all white. But seems not to be the case in 68. All I see in the brochures show them painted black with what looks to be aluminum along the horizontal stripes. No vertical stripes should show.
I'm curious about the exact horizontal stripe color...Is it really aluminum color, or is it white? Anyone have one in original colors? Hard to tell for sure looking at the pix, but I'm leaning aluminum...Also, I think the bumpers and "white" painted grille parts actually should be ivory instead of wimbleton or pure white to be "factory correct"... Note the difference in my all white repainted grille to the pix of the factory grille on the f-350...I've been thinking about repainting it to the original colors... Also note the very faint difference in the ivory bumpers, headlight parts to the white paint on the truck. http://web.wt.net/~nm5k/68-f250.jpg ----mine... http://web.wt.net/~nm5k/68-f350.jpg ----f-350 brochure...
Anyway, you're not the only one been wondering about paint colors... Heck, when I got the truck, even behind the grille had been painted white, except for the radiator... I corrected that before that pix was taken. And that particular pix is 2-3 years old...My whole truck needs to be totally stripped and repainted...
When I do, I'll probably make everything "factory correct" as far as colors. I'll likely go back to wimbledon white, instead of the repainted "pure white" it has now. Pure white was a factory color, but not on my particular truck... It was wimbledon white when it was born according to the VIN..
