All I can say is client beware. It is your truck. Period. Ford can not and will not insist that anything be done with out your approval. Even recalls. It is your choise. You are the client and the boss. At least at our dealership.
I flashed approx 3wks ago and the dealer changed to 5w-30 oil which I questioned but that is Ford recomendation. The flash cured rough idle problem and the hesitation on initial acceleration. It also restored the loss of power from the first flash so I am satisfied.
Tim, that is the chassis build date, on the back side (firewall side) of the valve cover is where you will find the engine build date. On the white cap of the fuel injector you will find the part # for the injectors, see if they are all the same and email the # to me, I can find out if they are a problem or not for you...

OK this is turning out ot be tuff and it should not be.
The drivers side valve cove has a sticker on it that has (18-MAR-03) could that be it. If not where?? can you see where or do you need a mirror.
Now on to the injectors............cannot even find one or maybe I am not looking in the correct place. Is the injector in the head, (port injection) or is it on the manifold???
I have had my *** in the air, under the hood for so long my knees now have the imprint of the radiator support. How in the world did Monaca do it for so long?
Also there is a date, on the rad support that has been hand written with a felt tip pin 4-19-03 weird because it does not look factory at all. Very neat and very intentional.
sure would like to have any and all info available.
After letting the truck sit outside for about 8 hours in 10 Deg F temps it started a lot faster now, ie before flash, turn over about 4 seconds, after flash about 1.5
Tim, pdi stands for predelivery inspection, the date is when that happened. March 18,2003 is the engine build date. The injectors are of the batch that Ford has had problems with. Tim, are you having any issues with the way the truck runs? Let me know....
P.S. Injectors are in the head...
I was a computer programmer for years and I currently run a technology company, so I know about what I speak. Much like your "Windows Update" on your PC, each new flash will fix some problems and cause others. Each subsequent flash version will fix more and more problems and introduce fewer and new problems. The best flash version for this motor will be the last version before it goes end-of-life. Therefore, I will combine that advice the advice of several of the above posts: 1) If it is running OK, leave it alone for now. Next year, probably second quarter, I will go in and have it flashed to the latest level. In all likelyhood, the software will be reaching a state of maturity by then and most of the new problems will be gone.
