Hi my 98 Van with only 26K Miles is misfiring and the only Code that I get is the P1000 Code which states that more driving is needed, I have driven with this Code for over a year and 3000 Miles so something else is going on, my Van started misfiring about 100 Miles ago after putting in Fuel Injection Cleaner and driving that 100 Miles, I don’t know if that is a coincidence, anyway I have taken it to two Mechanics and the first one told me it was the Crank Position Sensor but it wasn’t, it stopped misfiring when I took it to the second Mechanic and they couldn’t find anything wrong, told me that the Fuel Pump And Filter was good, now it’s misfiring again and gets bad in overdrive, the problem is that with the P1000 Code it won’t show any other Codes and the only thing I can think of is that it’s a bad Ignition Coil, I read that the only way to get rid of the P1000 Code is by driving the Van but that doesn’t work, is there any other way to remove it? My only other option is to replace all the Ignition Coils and see if that fixes it.
thanks

Reason: Adding information
There should be a confirmed DTC stored in the vehicle's ECM but since you don't mention the CEL being illuminated I'd connect an OBD-II scanner to first check if it should be illuminated---its possible the IC bulb has failed.
Throwing money at this right now is premature and foolish especially if you buy cheap COP's and plugs. Confirm what's causing this supposed misfire and only then buy parts necessary to correct it.
The P1000 code isn't helpful to such issues----in over 15 years three or my E-Series have shown that code as present no matter how many miles they've been driven.
Fuel injection cleaner is not gas and can actually foul the spark plugs
If the processor KAM power gets interrupted, the processor will think you have reset the codes each time you start it
That will cause a perpetual code P1000 and make it relearn idle speed (and some sensor parameters) after each start
Make sure you are testing both engine and OBD2 codes when testing
the problem is that with the P1000 Code it won’t show any other Codes
That is not true. Other codes can be stored when the P1000 is present.

There is no other way to remove the P1000 code.
It isn't just driving, it is driving a specific pattern. Ford has published a drive cycle that if followed will clear the P1000 code pretty quickly. One problem with clearing it that I've seen is people don't hold the accelerator pedal steady. It does take a steady foot to run all of the tests that need to run to clear this code.
That is what P1000 means
You just cleared the codes and more driving is needed to complete the test
So, whether you just cleared the codes or not, the computer thinks you did
Thanks guys for the reply’s, anyway the Service Engine Soon Light is working but not staying on, a year and a half ago I had Cylinder 1 Coil go bad and it did trip a Code for it but the Light never came on that time to, it was also intermittent, it first did it driving half way down from Maine to Georgia and then went away and didn’t return to I was back in Maine but it didn’t shake as bad as it is now, first it felt like I was driving on a rough road and then got worse and started shaking bad when going into overdrive and a week later it went away and now it’s doing it again, I am thinking of just buying 1 Coil and replacing the Coils one at a time driving between the changes to see if that works instead of replacing them all at once.
Get a scan tool that will show all the diagnostic data like number of misfires on each cylinder. Forscan is free and needs a PC and a $65 adapter to connect.
Hi, I live in my Van and I don’t have access to a PC but have an appointment on the 3rd at a Ford Dealership, would they have the necessary equipment to be able to get the Codes? I have already taken the Van to two Mechanic Shops and I was there for one that hooked up a Snap On Code Reader and couldn’t get any other Codes so I feel like I will be just wasting more of my time and money if I go there.
I don't think there will be any undiscovered codes. Vehicles of that vintage did not have the complexity of modern Fords and there aren't as many diagnostic codes as we have become used to. You need someone who can read raw data and hopefully diagnose the problem(s).
