E40D Transmission Diagnosis Help Requested

There is a good chance that the PSOM (Programmable Speedo/Odo Module) is your problem. It is mounted to the back of the instrument cluster. You might want to open it up and see if there is any visible damage. The capacitors can leak and cause problems.

Would the PSOM only cause speedometer problems, or also cause problems shifting? Because the speedo only got wild after I changed the VSS so I'm *guessing* it's related to that somehow?

The PCM uses vehicle speed info from the PSOM to schedule the shifts. If the signal is bad the shifts will be at the wrong time.
