After leaving the trails in 4wd I put back into rwd and got on highway. Immediately had massive slipping from 2-3. Did not have any slipping prior on the trail and was in 3rd a lot. Rpm’s go super high and if I let off it will go into 3. I found that I had front transfer case leak and fluids were low in tranny due to that. My cts3 showed trans temps never exceeded 145. I have fixed transfer case seal leak. Took both valve bodies apart and cleaned. All valves and springs look good. I ran codes using a vlinker FS and iPad and don’t show any codes. My first time using both so idk if I need to do something else to see transmission codes. Have newer ats TC and JW accumulator. Not sure what’s next without any codes. Maybe VSS or Shift solenoid. ??. No other issues with tranny and nothing prior either. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Neither the VSS nor a shift solenoid can cause this. The EPC (Electronic Pressure Control) solenoid could cause this, but it would also cause similar issues with other shifts.
Most likely you have an issue inside the direct clutch, such as a worn out clutch or a damaged seal.
Was really hoping it was as simple as a new solenoid pack but it definitely is only 2-3 and only on upshift. Sounds like rebuild time or more likely buying rebuilt/reman. Thank you Mark for the responses. Your knowledge on the forums is much appreciated.
So I went down to a local builder a friend recommended. Turns out the issue is actually that I have no 2nd gear right now. Starts in first then at high rpm let off fuel and it’s going into 3rd. It would grab 2nd on engine braking though. I’m gonna open it back up and recheck the associated accumulator valve and pull separator plate and hope I get lucky and something blocking flow holes or loose or broken flow through bolts. Otherwise might be issue with gear, seal, or sprag.
