hi
trying to get ready for inspection but I’m having trouble with the parking brake.
I can press the parking brake lever effortlessly to the floorboard. I think one of the cables has stretched, but I don’t just want to go buy a bunch of cables. I bought a doorman brake cable adjuster to try and take up the slack in the intermediate cable, but it’s not enough. On my truck, there is a metal rod shaped like a J connected to the equalizer. Apparently it’s made of malleable metal made to stretch. I think it’s all stretched out. I went to the Ford dealer and they can’t find the part for me.Would anyone know where I could find this piece or is there a workaround to bypass it?Thanks in advance for any help.

Reason: need to identify truck
So I eliminated the funky piece and found a different equalizer that accepted three cables and now I have parking brakes.
Not sure what the long term effects will be concerning cable stretching...but we are going to find out 8^)
Hi wwhite,
Yes I had them adjusted...which added to the frustration.
I got the parking brakes working.it was all about getting rid of that slack in the cables.
Thanks for replying.
Seems to function at this time manic...somehow.
This truck has been out of commission for sometime and now that you mention it I seem to recall farting around with the parking brakes and the parking brake pedal went effortless to the floor...I thought a cable snapped, which led me to replacing all of them and now here I am today...new cables but something ain't right.
The parking brakes work as I expect...I push the pedal approximately half way to the floor it tightens up and the brakes are applied. I pull the release and the parking brake pedal springs back...
Maybe it's a miracle and the rachet thing fixed itself...at the moment I'm going with that.
Thanks for your reply manic
Maby you can play with it and get it to work
Not sure if yours was the ratcheting type but it must be if it is not pulling hard on the cable right from the start
The ratchet has to catch to work properly
Dirt and stuff blocks the ratchet sometimes and there was also a recall to render the ratchet inop by installing a plastic wedge
