You were given a nice original well cared for truck, and I'd keep it that way. My advice would be to resist the seductive siren call of the 390/426 engines. Just because one would fit in your engine bay isn't a good reason for making a change. You probably already have a high hp modern vehicle for going fast. Old trucks don't need to be fast to be cool. Your original I6 engine will get you where you need to go, and the people you meet along the way will be impressed that your vehicle and engine are still just the way Henry intended for them to be.
You of course can do whatever you want with your truck. You own it after all. I'm just suggesting what I would do. Welcome to our forum and good luck with whatever you decide to do with your truck.

@52 USCG Panel , the truck has been decided to remain oem/stock, as is, but with some tasteful updates as needed. It has a new 3" aluminum radiator, disc brakes from something with some caliper brackets and crushed-esque front leaf springs enabling it to be lower...though the rear is much lower and not quite has a real bed decking...it's rocking some plywood and a rubber mat on top...though, its functional now. The I6 will stay with the transmission I'm enjoying driving...like you said, it's at home with the driver while cruising and smiling. Thank you for the kind regards and I'm grateful to drive and share with the family. It is a sweet truck!!
So I'm not sure which setup of front discs I have or how the truck is lowered but I'm assuming some of the leafs were removed to make it work...unintended consequences are th3 leaf pack is very deformed...any suggestions?
Go to Mid Fifty site they tell you want to use and do or DO IT CORRECT and SAFE go Posies Springs-- Get rid of those terrible springs and what ever that disc brake set-up is-- SPEEDWAY motors has a GREAT front Disc Brake set-up
You can clearly see a gap between the top 3 leafs and the bottom leafs. That is not a good situation.
It is an easy fix with a new set of springs. At that time, it would pay to check the spring pins and replace if necessary.
Thank you all for your expertise and suggestions! I plan on getting it back to how it needs to be, and done correctly instead of the farm-fixes I was noticing. I want a driver and not a truck to just look at. Surprisingly, the front end isn't harsh to drive on but it's also not "good" looking how it was done. Regardless, there will be optimizations done to ensure a long, safe and fun drive ahead! Happy Labor Day"s eve everyone!!

Thanks Dean! I'm loving the truck and have been driving it to work this past week... nothing but smiles! Midfifty had them listed lmirror parts) but they are back ordered... not certain what that means but i will call them and see what their assumptions are on ETA. I'm glad to be a part of the community!

** Welp, I placed an order from Midfifty without contacting directly for confirmation...Ha! Does anyone have any tailgate chains they find themselves not needing? I forgot to look at them on Midfifty prior to hitting the purchase button! I have door seals, mirror head, a DS striker and some hardware...the costs on springs for a "proper" lowering setup are a bit more than I can do right now but I'll keep the fingers crossed for some! Thanks again everyone!
Each week, more parts are showing up...I have some Donaldson oil filters and some Valvoline VR1 oil for an oil change, some new door rubber seals and some hardware for door striker...just waiting on mirror and fuel neck rubber...
I tried Mid fifty on tail gate chains. They were out of stock. .may have them now. Ended up going to OKC obsolete Ford. They had them in stainless. Clear tube.
