That uncle must have had you at the top of his favorite nephew list...very nice truck indeed. As for the mirror, they are easily acquired in the aftermarket...MidFifty is a good source, as well as Dennis Carpenter. Hope to see more posts/pics of your new baby as you make her yours.

Thanks @ajsunnyB !! The door hinge pins will get some adjustment and I may as well have some new strikers...I appreciate the help and my list is already starting at Mid Fifty! Thanks everyone! She's home in the shop now! Squeezed in....need to make more room!
Lol, @DieselDog409 , you're right...things will get thoroughly gone through as soon as I read more...what's your suggestion on oil and filter? 4w40 with some Moly? Old engines like thick blood, right? As far as filters go, I have no idea yet...I WILL be using only high octane non-ethanol fuel tho...that's the only grade without corn sweat up here...
Asking about oil and oil filters is like poking a bee hive! I run straight SAE 30 with Rislone zinc additive. Others seem to swear by Shell Rotela 15W-40 Diesel oil as it has some zinc and whatnot in it. Regardless of what you use, regular oil and filter changes are the key.
As for the fuel, when a low compression ratio engine, such as in our stock trucks, is given higher octane gasoline, the high octane fuel does not combust optimally - it will be wasteful creating maximum pollution and minimal power.
Fresh ethanol fuel is not a huge problem for our stock engines. Anything that predates "ethanol safe" components is beyond it's expected service and/or shelf life these days and has ethanol safe replacements available. The real issues with ethanol fuel is when it is no longer fresh and has absorbed water from the atmosphere. This water in the fuel itself is corrosive, say nothing for the other corrosive compounds that form over time. The easy solution? Enjoy and drive your truck so that it always has fresh fuel!

Squeezed in???? I don't think so. You should see my 54 in my one car garage.
I'm in need of some more of your help. I have read a lot but there are a couple items I'm not certain of...could I get your help on if these mirror heads will work and the door strikers? Mirrors suggest only to work on up to '52s and the strikers for the '56...
Those mirrors are not stock for your truck and may or may not work with your arms. Earlier I suggested complete Mirror Assemblies because there are some possible incompatibilities between true stock, and the various stock looking mirrors assembly components. Additionally, there appears to be a backorder situation with some components. Fortunately, many trucks only came with a driver's side mirror - the passenger was an option. As such, you can likely pass any road worthiness tests with just the one drivers side mirror while you wait on the backorder to clear.
As to the striker, a change was made in 56 to improve the effectiveness of the closing power in a crash. This new design can be retrofitted to 53-55 trucks if the matching latch assembly is also retrofitted.
A quick call to midfifty should help you confirm the above and sort it all out.
